Lonnie Jones was born in Dodson, Louisiana on December 20, 1898. After attending LSU, he went into the general mercantile business. On April 24, 1924, he became an agent with New York Life Insurance Company.
After 2 1/2 years in the sales field. He became an assistant manager with headquarters in Monroe. In 1929, he was transferred to New Orleans in the same capacity as assistant manager. On January 1, 1937, he was made manager of the Birmingham territory. In the 15 years that he was in Birmingham, he built an outstanding agency for the company. He was transferred to Shreveport as manager of the Shreveport office in January 1952. In recognition of his outstanding agency work in Birmingham and Shreveport. In his last year of active work with the company, he was promoted to Inspector of Agencies.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes S. Jones; one daughter, Doris Jones Coleman of Jacksonville, Florida. He also leaves one granddaughter, Virginia C. Armbrester, and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Jones was a member of the First Methodist Church, and East Ridge Country Club. He was active in church and community work. For many years, he was activ[e] in the Community Chest, Red Cross drives, and other community and civic activities. Lonnie was a member of the Board of Governors of the Sales Executive Club and past President of the General Agents and Managers Conference in Birmingham and Shreveport. He was a veteran of World War I.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Lewis, Bernie Bouma, Roger Ames, Charles Lunan, Thomas B. McElroy and Felix Arcenaux.
Honorary pallbearers: William E. Boyer and Cecil Sinclair.
