Elmer Derald Nelson, Jr., 73 passed from this life on Friday, January 20, 2017 at his home in Vancleave, Mississippi. He was born November 9, 1943 in Pascagoula. Mr. Nelson was a resident of Vancleave for forty-five years. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Nelson retired after forty years of service with The Mississippi Press. He was an avid Bass fisherman and hunter but he most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elmer and Etta Mae Nelson; paternal grandparents, Manly & Lydia Nelson; and maternal grandparents, Willie and Rosie Gasaway.
Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Linda Dianne Nelson; sons, Stephen Craig Nelson and wife Rebecca, Bradley Derald Nelson and Kyle Brandon Nelson and wife Brittany; grandchildren, Ashton Leigh Shidler and husband Matt, Aaron Craig Nelson and wife Zoe, Nalanie Jean Martin and William Parker; great-grandchildren, Mila Sophia Nelson, Isabella Emily Shidler, Lila Marie Shidler and Maverick Lee Shidler; brothers, Alton Dennis Nelson and wife Jo Ella, Richard James "Ricky" Nelson, Eddie Marlon Nelson; and numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and his special group of hunting and fishing partners.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Community of Christ Church of Vancleave 12205 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Vancleave, MS 39565 with Elder Wake Inabinette officiating.
