Virginia (Huerlin) Cross, 88, of St. Louis,MO., died Monday, November 21, 2016 at her daughter's home in Puposky, Minnesota. Virginia, born November 24, 1927, was the daughter of Fred and Marion (Lewis) Huerlin. Virginia was raised in Spokane, Washington, with her twin sister Elizabeth. In her youth she enjoyed athletics and raising goats and rabbits. She was married at age 19 to Paul David Long and raised three children on a chicken and cattle ranch on Whidbey Island, WA. Virginia loved the water and was a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor as a teenager and continued to teach through this year. She was a world class scuba diver, having dived all over the world and at Antarctica in her eightieth year.
In 1982 Virginia married Revis Maynard Cross. They enjoyed traveling and diving wherever they went. They also loved playing Bluegrass music together.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and one granddaughter, Cheri Long. Virginia is survived by her twin sister, Elizabeth Hamilton; her three children, David (Linda) Long, James (Laurie) Long, and Valarece Long all living in the Bemidji area. Also survived by grandchildren: Nikki (Joe) Smith; Crystal (Scott) Mattfield; Brandi (Chris) Muras; Sandra Long; Kerry Claypool; Colin (Mai) Claypool; Becca (Joe) Babolian; Wade (Jessica) Claypool ; Jenna Claypool; Anna (Nate) Purser, & 19 great grandchildren.
According to her wishes, there will be no funeral at this time. A family gathering will be held at a later date. She touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.
