Dan was born Dec. 12, 1952, in Lewiston, to Herb and Mary Bowlin. They relocated to Clarkston, where Dan grew up and spent most of his adult life.
Growing up, Dan enjoyed many hobbies - playing baseball, playing the guitar and woodworking with his dad. In his early teens, he realized his true calling was mechanics. He loved to tear apart old cars and rebuild them. Eventually his passion turned to motorcycles. At age 18, he bought his first bike. In his early 20s, he joined the Highwaymen Motorcycle Club of North Idaho, who would become his brothers for the remainder of his life. After spending time traveling across country on his bike, he settled back in Clarkston and opened his own repair shop, H&D Motorcycles.
In 2001, Dan relocated to Belgrade, Mont., to work for Yellowstone Harley. It was in Belgrade that he got the fever to race cars at the local dirt track. He bought himself an old car and built himself his beloved "19" car. He raced until 2013. In 2014, Dan took a job on the North Slope in Alaska working for the oil companies. He worked there until April 2016.
Survivors include his life mate, Lesley Abraham of Belgrade; sister Barb Nelson of Oregon; and countless brothers from the Highwaymen MC of N. Idaho. His parents preceded him in death.
There will be a private interment in Lewiston at Dan's request. Donations can be made in Dan's name to Bozeman Health Foundation (memo line: Hospice), 931 Highland Blvd. No. 3200, Bozeman, MT 59715.
Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service; www.dokkennelson.com.
