Reverend Daniel "Danny" Hugh Chapman, M. Div., passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Born in Houston, Texas at Hermann Hospital, on May 12, 1943 he was the only child of Robert "Bob" Chapman and Evelyn Wilson Chapman, who both preceded him in death.
He was a second generation graduate of Baylor University, just miles from the family farm in Hewitt Texas where he was the fifth generation to enjoy the land, ride horses, and witness farming that continues to this day, over 100 years after the land was acquired by his great- grandfather. He received his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
He loved NFL and college football, and the unlimited viewing of games on his satellite TV service brought him many hours of entertainment in his last years. He played golf for over 50 years, endless rounds at all the courses in the Houston area, usually with his father. He even twice had the thrill of a hole in one. He absolutely adored his dogs, which is a family trait of both his predecessors, his descendants and extended family. Shadow, his beloved Doberman, will be cared for after his passing, just as he would have wished. An avid runner, he never missed a daily run. Some of his longest and most memorable runs were on the beach in Galveston, one of his favorite places.
As a dedicated minister, he served first with the Southern Baptist denomination before being ordained into the United Methodist Church in May, 1979. He served many small parishes throughout east and southeast Texas. He never hesitated to preach the gospel or evangelize at country churches, revivals, prisons, The Star of Hope Mission or anywhere the opportunity presented itself. He never refused help to anyone who came to him – no judgement, no questions asked. Ultimately he counselled countless people over the years and helped innumerable others discover and nurture their faith in Christianity.
He is survived by sons Daniel Robert Chapman (Barbara) of Alvin, Texas, David Thomas Chapman (Nancy) of Plano, Texas and Chris Crutchfield Chapman (Yolanda) of Mission Viejo, California; and one daughter, Evelyn Kay Chapman Aucoin (Chris) of Cypress, Texas. He is also survived by his cousin Linda Warren Turner (Thomas) of Georgetown, Texas. He was preceded in death by his cousin, Glenn Warren, and survived by Susan Warren, Glenn's wife. At his passing, he was grandfather to nine and great-grandfather to one. He is also survived by one niece and four nephews. His cousin Eileen Britt's status is unknown.
Visitation will be start at 6:30pm, Friday, January 20th at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmet F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City, Texas 77591. Graveside will be Saturday, January 21st, 11am at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Avenue, Houston, Texas 77023.
After the graveside, the family will receive visitors in a private room located inside Willie G's, 1605 Post Oak Blvd., Houston, TX 77056. Seafood was always Danny's cuisine of choice, so plenty of seafood delicacies and beverages will be provided for anyone who would like to stop by. The family plans to be there from approximately 12:30pm to 3pm.
