Dianna M. Miller, age 71, of West Des Moines passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Born on December 9, 1945 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, IA, she was the daughter of Jack and Selma (Wurr) Kastle. Dianna was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. She was raised on the family farm near Lidderdale, where she enjoyed working outside with her father and cooking and baking inside with her mother. Dianna attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Lidderdale and graduated from Carroll High School in 1964. Following high school, she attended Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines, Iowa and worked as a beautician until her retirement in 2012. She loved all of her "hair clients" and stayed in touch with many of them after retirement. Dianna also worked part-time at K-Mart for 15 years and truly loved her "K-Mart family". After her partner Dave passed in 2009, she moved to the acreage they had built for retirement. She was once again back to the farm. It was a lot of work, but she loved it. Dianna joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter which she enjoyed like her "growing up years" at Immanuel Lutheran Church because it was small and friendly.

Dianna is survived by her special aunt and uncle, Phyllis (Wurr) and Vernon Drees; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Dianna was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents; brothers: Larry and David; and her partner of 22 years, Dave Stull.

A private graveside service was held with Rev. Jeff Keuning of Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale...

Carroll Hi-Recorde Vol. 27 Published by the Students of Carroll High School Carroll, Iowa, Saturday, February 1, 1964 No. 20 Three Plays to Be Presented 2 Seniors In Spotlight In the spotlight this week are two more "on-the-go" seniors, Dianne Hill and Dianna Kastle.

Dianna is an avid member of Pep Club, is presently secretary of her Walther League, and is secretary - treasurer of her church choir. In the past, she has served as treasurer and reporter of the Walther League.

This is Dianne's first year at C.H.S. She and her family moved to Carroll from Omaha last summer. Dianne is active in Pep Club, Mixed Chorus, and Girl's Glee Club. She attends St. Paul's Lutheran Church and is also a member of Walther League. Government and office practice are school subjects common to Dianne and Diana. In addition to these, Dianne is taking shorthand, English, and senior math; Dianna is currently studying home economics, bookkeeping. The two girls agree that English has been and still is their favorite subject.

With graduation coming nearer, Dianna and Dianne have definite ideas about what they will do with their futures. Dianna plans to enter beauty school at Des Moines in September and major in hairstyling. Dianne will seek to obtain an office job. She believes that "this can be a great opportunity to a good future and maybe a career."

In her spare time, Dianna enjoys bowling and going to shows. Another of her favorite pastimes is talking. This gives her a chance to better understand those around her. Dianne also likes movies and listening to music. When summer rolls around, she "loves" to water- ski and swim. This does, in fact, take up the greater portion of her summer. Dianne does not like people who talk behind others' backs and who run down people they do not even know. She went on further to express the idea that everyone is created equal and all should be considered thus. Anyone who knows her will tell you that this is in keeping with Dianne's quality for giving justice to all.

Dianna's personality can best be described as jolly. Her pet peeve is people who do not have a sense of humor, and people who think they are superior to those about them. While the names Dianne and Dianna are quite similar, the girls do differ in appearance. The chief difference is in the coloring of their hair; Dianna's hair is blond, and Dianne's is brown. Today people everywhere will tear another page out of their life. That page is January, 1964, and with its going we turn to face a new page — that of the month of February with its many Red-Letter Days. To begin with, on February twelfth, the nation will celebrate the birthday of Abraham Lincoln. As sixteenth president of the United States he has become one of the most prominent men in American history.

Ash Wednesday also occurs on the twelfth and with it comes the beginning of the Lenten season. Valentine's Day with its heart- shaped cards and boxes of candy comes our way on the fourteenth. People everywhere will find another chance to let ther friends know they care.

Farther on down the page we come to the twenty - second which brings to mind another birthday to be celebrated - that of George Washington, the first president of the United States. As a man once said of Washington, "First in war, first in peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen."

1964 is a leap year which means it has one more day than the last three years. (Leap year happens once every four years.)

Which month do you suppose has the honor of adding this day? Yes, it is February. Instead of the usual twenty-eight, February will have twenty-nine days. Isn't it fortunate that these Red-Letter Days serve to make us aware of the contributions others have made to our way of life and the contributions we should make for others. These Red-Letter Days mean more than a surcease from midwinter doldrums.
