MISS MINNIE G. McCLELLAND.

"Death lies on her, like an untimely frost
Upon the sweetest flower of all the field."

Miss Minnie G. McClelland met with a violent death, last Saturday night, near her home at Norwood, being killed in a runaway accident, while returning with Frank Albert from a band concert at Norwood. A large number had attended the entertainment, and as they were returning between 10 and 11 o'clock, a rig drove up from behind Albert's horse and in attempting to pass, his horse was frightened and started to run. He endeavored to check the horse by pulling on the reins, when the bit broke. Albert climbed out on the shafts and made a desperate effort to stop the horse by the bridle, but failing in this he called to Miss McClelland to jump. As she sprang out, the horse made a frightful dash forward and she was thrown out, striking with great force on her head and shoulders, breaking her neck, and killing her almost instantly. Albert fell in the road, and the buggy passed over him, but he escaped any serious injury.

Miss McClelland was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carson McClelland, wh resided in Monmouth last winter while she and her sister Della and brother Everett attended college. She was a member of the United Presbyterian church, in which she delighted to serve. She was a lovely girl and leaves many friends saddened over her untimely death.
