Malcolm, 96, of Charlotte died peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Eaton Community Palliative Care. Parents Maurice and Florence (Lee) Fox welcomed him to this world in London, England.

He was a WWII veteran of the British Army, fighting in France and later in North Africa where in the First Battle of Alamein. He was captured and placed in POW camps in Italy and Germany. He honed his chess skills playing a Yugoslavian chess champion while in a camp hospital.

After the war he emigrated from the UK in 1947, initially settling in Chicago where he met and married Joyce Jean Rennick. They later moved to Charlotte to work and raise their family.

Malcolm led a very interesting life. He was a cameraman in the early days of television and later helped setup a television manufacturing plant. He was a Vice President and the Chief Engineer at World Magnetics in Charlotte creating magnetic tape heads for reading tape and use in dollar bill changers, an engineer at the Spartan Corporation in Jackson building sonar buoys for the US Navy, and a Vice President and the Chief Engineer at Michigan Magnetics in Vermontville from which he retired at age 69.

He had many extraordinary experiences in his lifetime, including being presented the British Military Medal by King George VI; they shook hands with Malcolm's firm hand shaken back "just as hard" by the King.

Malcolm was a person of integrity, sophisticated, worldly, and educated. He taught at the American Television Institute while finishing his degree in Chicago. He had a brilliant mind for math and for completing problems in his head.

Although he liked to travel and try new things, he always loved fishing on the lake at his farm. He remained a British citizen until his death.

Malcolm is survived by his sons Malcolm (Monica) Fox II, and Derek Fox; his daughter Nan-Marie Fox; seven grandchildren Trevor Fenner, Leslie Fox, Ian Fox, Graham Fox, Shelby Fox-Purrier, Chloe Fox, and Mackenzie Fox-Purrier; and by his brother-in-law Virgil Rennick.

He was preceded in death by his wife J. Jean Fox and his daughter Debora J. Fox-Fenner.

A memorial service celebrating Malcolm's life was planned for a later date.

If desired, the family suggests contributions to Eaton Community Palliative Care or the Charlotte Community Library.

The family is in the care of Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
