Obituary for Jim West
Jim West was born July 23, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Charles and Beulah (Fleenor) West.
He was raised in Carbondale, Iowa and graduated from East High School, in Des Moines, with the Class of 1961. As a young man, Jim drove a truck for Pennzoil and worked for Armstrong Tire. On September 19, 1964 Jim was united in marriage to Jeanie White. The couple always made their home in Pleasantville. Jim drove a livestock truck for Park Bingley and farmed for several years. He has owned and operated his own welding and auctioneering business for over 20 years.
It didn’t matter where Jim would go, he always knew a friend or made a new one. Jim had a quick wit and could always make people laugh. He enjoyed reading, socializing, playing cards, and spending time with his granddaughters, who he loved dearly. Jim was a talented steer wrestler in his early years; and has always enjoyed rodeo and the western lifestyle. Jim also enjoyed singing, and was especially known for singing The Auctioneer Song. Jim smoked meat for many weddings of friends; and he held numerous benefit auctions in the Community. Up until recently, Jim enjoyed going to his nephew Rob’s to play cards with he and his brother Bob.
Jim passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at his home at the age of 73 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Clarence “Bert”, Ruth (Ralph) Grant, Lu (Jim) Johnson and Chuck (Barb) West.
Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his wife, Jeanie, his children Jimmy (Jenny) and Janea (Mark) Johnson, his two granddaughters Katie and Joelle, his brother Bob West of Indianola, and many other friends and family members.
A Celebration of Life for Jim West, age 73 of Pleasantville, will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Memorial Hall in Pleasantville from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Join family and friends for a luncheon to share stories and remember a life lived to the fullest.
