Mrs. Janie Russell Leach, 82, widow of Jonah Leach, resident of Hinkle Street, died today in City Memorial Hospital. She was born in Montgomery County, April 8, 1888, a daughter of Thomas A. and Sarah Maria Hilliard Russell. She was a graduate of Trinity College, now Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and had taught in Montgomery County and Davidson County school systems for 38 years. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Ladies' Bible Class and a member of Women's Society of Christian Service of the Church. She was past Matron of Thomasville Chapter 171, order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter member and past Grand Worthy Matron of the Biscoe Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Thomasville Garden Club and a member and past president of Culbreth-Harris Post of the American Legion Auxiliary. On June 21, 1909, she married Mr. Jonah Leach, who died on November 13, 1954.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Betty (Robert) Hosler of Elliott Dr.; two sons, Frank R. Leach of Asheboro and Charles A. Leach of Forest Dr.; one sister, Mrs. J.B. Jones of Lake Shore Dr.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by Dr. Philip L. Shore, Jr. Burial will be in Holly Hills Cemetery.
