Death at Grovania.
We regret to note the death of Mr. H. Benson, who died at the home of Dr. W.H. Roberts at Groxania [should be Grovania] last Thursday evening.
Mr. Benson had been in declining heath for several years, though confined to bed only periodically until a week or so before he died. He bore his sickness with much fortitude and was rational up to a few hours before he died. Mr. Benson was an old soldier in the civil war, a member of a brave band, and devote [sic] to the Confederate cause. Mr. Benson was a good citizen, an honest, high-toned gentleman. Although a member of no church, he was always ready to extend a willing hand to the needy and those who were in distress. He was formerly of South Carolina and came to this county a few years after the civil war. Was book-keeper for the Grovania, Oil & Fertilizer Co. for several years. He was buried in the Haynesville cemetery Friday evening. We extend our sympathies to his friends and relatives. J B

Per the 1900 census he was born in SC in 1840, no month given. He was employed as a bookkeeper. He was single and both parents were born in England. However in the 1880 census they are listed as being born in VA & SC. and he is a "steam mill man".
