Melvin B. (Junior) Stovall, Jr., 85, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at his home.

He was born February 26, 1931 to Melvin B. “Mel” Stovall, Sr. and Freeda (Vestal) Stovall in Harjo, Oklahoma.

Melvin has lived in Okay, Tecumseh and Shawnee.

He worked for 26 years at Roundhouse Garment factory as a marker and cutter, then as a supervisor and at Hertz Rental Trucking Services as a diesel mechanic. He finally retired in 1995 after working 10 years at COJAC as a carpenter. He attended church at First Assembly of God Church in Tecumseh for more than 40 years. He served as a leader and volunteered in many ministries, including the sound board many years, handing out candy at the Fall Festival and has waxed many a floor. His services are deeply appreciated.

Melvin married Wanda June (Collum) on November 22, 1951 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. He enjoyed farming, family camping and fishing, vacations and Christmas. He was a jack of all trades taking care of construction and machine repair for many.

Melvin and Wanda raised three children all who attended Macomb public schools. On July 25, 2005, Wanda June passed away suddenly.

Melvin married Sylvia Winkler on December 29, 2011.

Melvin was preceded in death by his father, mother, and wife, Wanda June Stovall; 2 sisters, Katherine Stroupe and Helen Simon.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Sylvia of their home; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Elizabeth June Stovall of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; daughter, Cheryl Afshari of Oklahoma City; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Marsha Stovall of Moore, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Amy and JP Marc-Charles, Alison Afshari, Jessie and Justus Burk, Zachrey Stovall and fiancé, Lauren Lyon and Leslie Stovall; 5 great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Autumn, Hattie, Ruby and Ellie; sister, Janet Chuchman of Oklahoma City; and numerous family members, church family, and close friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 and from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017 and continue through service time. Family gathering to meet with friends and family will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday January 22, 2017 at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2017 at Tecumseh First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Don Jonker, Tecumseh First Assembly of God and Pastor Matt Rodgers, Tecumseh First Assembly of God officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
