Dennis J. Haldeman Sr., 67, of 1265 Green St., Lehighton, passed away Saturday, March 31, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Lynne B. (Bowman) Haldeman. They were married for 13 years last July 27. Prior to retiring, he was an engineer for the former Chestnut Ridge Railroad, and also worked in the same capacity for the former P.B. and E. Railroad.
He and his son also owned and operated the D.J. Haldeman Painting Company, Lehighton.
Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late James T. Sr. and Mary (Conarty) Haldeman. He was an outstanding football player for Lehighton Area High School in the early 1960s. He was of the Catholic faith.
An avid deer hunter and fishing enthusiast, he held a membership at The Western Pocono Sportsman Association and was a life member of Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1, Lehighton.
In his spare time, he loved to listen to music recorded by Frank Sinatra and loved spending time with his wife and family.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter Nanette, wife of Jason Green of Bowmanstown; a son, Dennis J. Jr., and his wife, Nina, and a stepdaughter Jennifer, wife of Terry Wentz, both of Lehighton; two sisters, Nancy A. Haldeman of Weatherly and Mary Beth Horn of Lehighton; a brother, Robert F., and his wife, Angelica, in Florida; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Tessitore; a brother, James T. Jr.; a stepdaughter, Kate Deibert; and a stepgrandson, Cody Wentz.
Service: Funeral service 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton, with the Rev. Nathan Fry officiating. Private interment at convenience of family. Call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Contributions in his name may be made to the Lehighton Area Indian Pride Marching Band, 1 Indian Lane, Lehighton, Pa. 18235.
