Petroski, John Joseph, age 74, longtime resident of National Park, passed away with his loving family by his side on December 19, 2013.

Legacy

John was a courageous, generous, big-hearted man who devoted his life to family, community, and country. He proudly served the United States Army National Guard from 1957 - 1965. An active member of the community, John served as Commander of the Gloucester County Veteran's Advisory Council, Trustee and Honor Guard of the Gloucester County Veteran Cemetery, Past Commander of the Army Navy Garrison #52 and Past Deputy Commander of the A.N.U for the State of New Jersey, Chaplain for the National Park Boat Club and a trustee for the Verga VFW. John was also a member of Deptford Elks and the Sons of Italy of Paulsboro, Marino Chapter. He was an honorary member of the AOH, Past President and Coach of the National Park ACA, Judge Advocate for National Park Borough and Vice President of the National League of Postmasters.

Prior to retiring in 1993, John was the Postmaster of Westville and a National Park Police Officer. He was also an active member of St. Matthew's RC Church and was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus, both 3rd and 4th Degree of the Msgr. Strenski Council. John had quite a singing voice and was a member of the Philadelphia Opera Company. He belonged to National Association of Letter Carriers and the PBA Local 122. John enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member of the NRA, the Morris PA Rod and Gun Club and the Iron Horse Pistol Club.

Family

Beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (neé McGovern); dear companion of Diane Heins; Devoted father of Christina (Frank)Wallace, John Petroski, Michael (Darlene) Petroski and Anthony (Cathy) Petroski; loving grandfather of 17, great grandfather of 6 and, godfather of 7; dear brother of Thomas (Carol) Petroski and the late Joseph Petroski.
