Naomi Pitts (nee Moore), born September 23, 1937, in Salem, New Jersey was the second of eight children born to the late Harry W. and Emma G. (nee Wyatt) Moore. Naomi made her transition on January 16, 2017 at The Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Salem, NJ, after a brief illness.

Naomi resided in the Salem County area her entire life and was educated in the Salem County public school system. On October 28, 1955, she married Chouncey O. Pitts and from this union five children were born: Steven, Diana, Theresa, Darryl & Derek. Naomi’s first love was her family – She and her twin sister, Norma, were inseparable…when you saw one, you saw the other. Whether you were family, a friend or colleague, all were welcome and no matter your term of endearment for her (Na, Mom, Aunt Na, Annie Na, MumMum, O’mi, G-Mom) all knew we could talk and laugh to a point, but we all knew not to cross the line in the sand. Her laugh was infectious and she had an ornery streak that would have Chouncey and the kids bursting at the seams with laughter. Naomi was an amazing balance between quiet grace and sharp wit. Her three favorite sayings were “Lord have mercy,” “Stop looking like a dying calf in a hail storm,” “I’m so hungry I could eat the horse and chase the rider.” She was a true sweetheart to all who knew and loved her.

Naomi retired from PSE&G as the Mail Room Supervisor in 1990 after twenty plus years of service. Due to a rock-solid work ethic and unwillingness to sit still, she returned to work part-time for Compaq in Pureland as an Assembly worker. She left Compaq in 1992 and settled into retirement alongside Chouncey. Naomi also loved singing on various choirs including Salem Women’s Community Choir, Haven United Methodist Church Senior Choir, Mass and Gospel Assemble Choirs, United Methodist Women’s Choir and Allen & Allen Choir. She also served faithfully on the Staff Pastor Relations Committee, Church Council at Large, and the Nomination/ Lay Leadership Committee. She was an amazing seamstress, enjoyed knitting and, for many years, participated in the Moore’s Tires Bowlerettes and Woodlanes (Woodstown, NJ) bowling leagues where she received numerous trophies for her phenomenal bowling ability. Naomi was also a fierce softball player for the Blazerettes.

Naomi leaves to cherish her memory – children: Steven & Theresa, Salem; Diana & Darryl, Quinton; and Derek (Dionne), Carney’s Point; Mother-in-Law, Dorothy C. Pitts, Bridgeton; siblings: twin-sister Norma Moore, Quinton; Harry Moore Jr., Michigan; Donald Moore (Salem); and, Aaron Moore (VA); Grandchildren: Marquee, Sr., Brittany, Brock (Tabitha), Brianna, Shareese, Jazmine, and Octavian Pitts and, Secoya Robinson; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one aunt Olive Lewis; Aunts-in-Law Georgianna Thompkins, Sophronia, Sarah & Marcia Pitts, and Marie Congo; six sisters-in-law: Patricia Pace, Paulette, Marie & Pamela Pitts, Carol Wells, and Annette Craig; four brothers-in-law: Lester & Douglas Pitts, George Pace, and Harry Wells; a special cousin/surrogate daughter Sandra Russell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Chouncey O. Pitts; siblings: Eva Brooks, Emory Moore and Jacquelyn Cobb; Father-in-Law, Lester Pitts Sr.; daughter-in-law, Judy Brown Pitts; and brothers-in-law Wesley, Anthony and Ralph Pitts, Donald E.D.
