She was very interested in genealogy, proud of her Scottish family heritage and being a Historical Society member. She loved her job as a nurse aide at Elmore Community Hospital for 11 years, loved feeding birds, gardening, "remembering" older fun times, looking at photos, sewing, making beautiful dolls, cooking, especially homemade yeast rolls, reading "The Coosa County News", "Guideposts", especially writing down positive thoughts, the adult coloring books, especially those with Scripture, and coloring flowers red and leaves green, chocolate, buttermilk and cornbread, growing "Seven Sisters" roses which she was told were the kind which covered her mother's grave in 1924, when her mother passed away when Nellie Kate was only 7 years old.
