Horace "Bucky" M. Chalfant, Jr. of Newark, Delaware passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Manor Care in Wilmington. He was 79 years old.

Born, raised and educated in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Horace Maurice Chalfant, Sr. and the late Frances Warren Chalfant.

Bucky was a graduate of H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School. Following his honorable service to our Country in the United States Navy on the submarine USS Raton, he was employed by Giles & Ransome in their parts department and was a heavy equipment operator for Corrardo Brothers. He was a past member of the Delaware Umpire Association.

He was the beloved husband for 54 years of Nancy J. Chalfant, nee Gilbert, father of Renee Chalfant Baker (Robert) and Scott Chalfant; grandfather of Justin Chalfant and Nichole Renee Baker; brother of Paul Chalfant of Wilm., DE and Bernice Chalfant Otte of Columbus, IN.

A viewing will be from 9:00AM until 10:30AM on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. The funeral service will be at 10:30AM.

Burial with United States Navy military honors will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, 3300 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE.

Memorial donations would be appreciated to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Lilburn, GA 30047.
