Rev.John L. Bundy, 71, of 110 Shannon Drive, Lancaster, went to be with his Lord November 10, 2005, at Hospice of Lancaster County.

Born in Pontiac, Michigan on July 9, 1934, he was a son of the late Wilfrid and Lucina (Grey) Bundy.


Bundy was a minister in the Brethren in Christ Church for 43 years, serving with his wife, Mary J. (Simmons) Bundy.

He was ordained to the Christian ministry in 1978.

Pastorates included churches at Montoursville, Pleasant View at Red Lion; Manheim in Lancaster County; Cedar Heights at Mill Hall and Air Hill at Chambersburg, PA.

He began his ministry after being licensed to the ministry at God's Love Mission in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955.

As Pastor, he enjoyed the pulpit ministry, home and hospital visitation.

He served 13 years as a Trustee for the Brethren in Christ Minister's Pension Fund, six years on the Allegheny Conference Extension Loan Fund, 11 1/2 years as Conference Treasurer in the Allegheny and Susquehanna Conferences, 13 years as Trustee for the Christian Retreat Center and served one term on the Bishop's Nominating Committee.

He also served, with his wife, Mary, for 18 years in the Information Center at Roxbury Holiness Camp, Chambersburg and the last three years as lodging committee chair person.

In the early years of ministry he was bi-vocational and worked 1 1/2 years at Lemoyne Trust Company, Lemoyne, PA, 12 years at Muncy Bank and Trust Co., Muncy, PA and 2 1/2 years at York Bank and Trust Co., York, PA.

He served as the Borough Manager and Secretary of the West York Borough from 1972 to 1978 in West York, PA.

He was licensed as a School bus driver for 22 years, most recently with the Red Lion Bus Company, Red Lion, PA.

Following retirement, he was a professional Tax Specialist, preparing taxes with H and R Block and worked part time at SKH Stauffer's in the Garden Center.


Bundy was a member of the Manor Brethren in Christ Church, Lancaster, PA and continued in the role of ministry as Director of Senior Adult Ministries, taught the Christian Fellowship Sunday School class and served as an usher.

He was also a delegate to the denomination's General Conference.

He graduated from Messiah College Academy in 1954 and completed ministerial courses at Messiah College.

He also completed training in Banking and Municipal government.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, he leaves two sons: John, husband of Rae (Johnson) Bundy of Lancaster and Daryl, husband of Veronica (Rawlings) Bundy of Richmond, Virginia; six grandchildren: Taylor, Austin, Mitchell, Charissa, Tyrone and Carter; four brothers: George of Mechnicsburg, PA, a twin, James, Ashboro, NC, Ramon of Holly, MI, David of Mt.

Morris, MI and a sister: Shirley Hadden of Fenton, MI.

A sister, Audrey, predeceased him.

He dearly loved his family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Manor Brethren in Christ Church, 530 Central Manor Road, Lancaster, with the Revs.

Robert Sheetz, John Hawbaker, Daryl Bundy, and Don McNiven sharing in the service.

Viewing will be 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in Dallastown, PA.
