Suzanne Nelson Steinbach, 91, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2017. She was born in Herrin, Illinois, on November 23, 1925 and moved with family to San Antonio, Texas in December 1928.

She attended schools at Bonham Elementary, Page Jr. High, and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1942 where she served as secretary of the Purple Jackets drill team. Sue was part of the generation contributing to the war effort. From February 8, 1942, to June 8, 1945, she worked at Kelly AFB in the civilian personnel office. She was even runner up for "Miss Kelly Field."

Sue married her childhood sweetheart Norman W. Steinbach on May 18, 1946. They lived in Windcrest, Texas, from 1958 to 2002. She also worked in the offices of Scrivener's Inc. from 1968 to 1982. Both Sue and Norman continued to be active in their community, schools, band parents, Boy Scouts, and Windcrest United Methodist Church. They also traveled for over 18 years in their beat-up Airstream motorhome and were active in the Wally Byam Airstream travel club. In 2002, they moved to the Baptist Memorials retirement center in San Angelo to be closer to family.

Sue was foremost a homemaker. She loved cooking, sewing, and crafts. Many will remember her for her love and compassion for her family and friends as well as her spontaneous wit and infectious laughter.

Sue was predeceased by her parents, John Clinton Nelson and Germaine Ranty Nelson, her husband, Norman W. Steinbach, and her elder brother, John Roy Nelson. She was survived by an elder sister, Marguerite, two sons, four grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
