John Ferderer went to his heavenly home on January 16, 2017, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

John was born on December 6, 1929 to Jack and Philomena (Kautzman) Ferderer in Morton County. He attended school in Morton County and worked on the family farm.

On June 2, 1958, John married the love of his life, Caroline Martin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck, ND. They settled on the family farm, raising 10 children. John worked hard taking care of his family along with the raising cattle and small grain crops. They were members of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, Crown Butte. He enjoyed being a member of the St. Vincent’s Men’s Verein, Knight’s of Columbus, Eagles Club, and Moose Club.

In the spring of 1990, John retired from farming and began driving the mail truck for BECO. John enjoyed his daily route from Bismarck to Zeeland, ND and the many friends that he made; playing cards and spending time at the Senior Center in Zeeland. John also worked at Support Systems, Inc for five years, as a companion to seniors. He enjoyed playing cards and pool with them and sharing stories of the good ole days.

John and Caroline were fond of taking family trips with their children to Medora, Billings, MT, Black Hills, and to the Garrison Dam. John and Caroline could often be found dancing and playing cards with friends and family. Many remember playing pinochle with John and he always had a deck of cards with him. John made the best pork sausage! He had a passion for farming and after moving to Mandan and later to Bismarck, he placed that passion in his garden. John loved to fish, and when he wasn’t gardening, he could be found on the shoreline fishing with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona and California visiting his daughters and their families.

John passed on his strong Catholic faith, importance of family, and hard work to his children and grand children.

Grateful to have shared his life with him is his wife of 58 years, 8 daughters, Julie (Don) Wald, Bismarck, Jane (Corey) Walth, Bismarck, Debbie (Steve) Schmalz, Bismarck, Diane (Keith) Berger, Bismarck, Janet (Robert) Jones, Elk Grove, CA, Donna (Darin) Starck, Mandan, Jolene (Patrick) Tormey, San Tan Valley, AZ, and Dawn (Bruce) Schumacher, Bismarck.
