Sept. 17, 1922 - January 17, 2017 Virginia Steiner Donnell died peacefully at home Tuesday, January 17, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 17, 1922 in Sherrodsville, OH to Christian Steiner and Jesse Storrie Steiner.

In 1941, while working in Dundee, Michigan, she met and married her husband of 40 years, Thomas Marshall Donnell of De Soto, Missouri. Shortly after marriage they were separated for nearly four years while he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater. Marshall worked for Ralston Purina and the couple lived in a number of cities, including Boston, Buffalo, Minneapolis, Heyworth, IL, Nashville and St. Louis. Upon his retirement in 1974, they moved to South Venice, FL where they enjoyed an active life of leisure and community service.

Marsh preceded Jinny in death (1982), as did her 8 siblings. Jinny was a spirited, fun-loving, and often feisty wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an enthusiastic golfer, bridge player, cook, reader, bowler and friend. Her laugh was infectious and she shared it often. She was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and she loved discussing politics with family and friends. She was an active member of the Methodist church while living in Illinois and Tennessee. After moving to Mobile in 2005, she was confirmed as a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her three sons: Thomas Marshall Donnell Jr., and wife, Patti, of Nashville, TN, Dr. Robert Mark Donnell, and wife, Cynthia, of Mobile, and Richard Jay Donnell and wife, May, of Montgomery; eight grandchildren: Ramsey, Laura, Mark, Kelsey, Natalie and Jay Donnell; Rachel Donnell Wright and Dr. Sarah Donnell Hassell; and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Jinny's life will be conducted Saturday, January 21 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Reverends John Riggin and Marshall Craver. The family will greet friends in the parish hall beginning at 11:00 A.M., followed by a memorial service in the Little Church at noon. In lieu of flowers, please give to your favorite charity , or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church (4051 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL 36608).
