RIVERSIDE - Edythe J. Kase, 92, of 398 4th Street, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Mifflintown, a daughter of the late William L. and Lydia E. (Shotzberger) Houtz. She was a graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg.She was employed as an LPN by Harrisburg State Hospital. Edythe was also employed for 38 years as a dental assistant by Dr. Francis Homet Vaughan, retiring in 1984. Edythe was a member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church Danville. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She volunteered at Geisinger Health System in Danville for many years. An avid bowler, she was a member of the Pennsylvania Women's Bowling Association. She enjoyed knitting, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing pinochle at the Pine Barn Inn. Edythe also enjoyed her family, especially her many grandchildren. She was married for 39 years to the late James A. Kase Jr. who preceded her in death May 13, 1979. They were married April 15, 1940. She is survived by two sons; James A. Kase, III and his wife Phoebe of Lewisburg, and Steven A. Kase of Narvon; one daughter, Patricia A. Dewalt and her husband Marlin E. of Riverside. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one niece Darlene Smith and family of Mifflintown. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Groninger and H. Dale Houtz. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, with the Reverend Nancy Shank officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 363 Danville PA 17821, or the American Cancer Society Montour Unit 1948 E. 3rd Street, Williamsport PA 17701. Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 10 West Mahoning Street Danville PA.
