John M. Stout | John Maxwell Stout, 94, passed away in his sleep at the Spanish Meadows Nursing Center in Katy, Texas on Dec. 8, 2016. Born Dec. 6, 1922, Stout, a brilliant scientist and NASA chaplain with six degrees and a doctorate, was ordained at the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1955.

A WW2 disabled veteran and 11-year missionary to the indigenous tribes of Brazil, he was awarded the Apollo Achievement Award by President Nixon for his work during the Apollo program.

In addition to his many accomplishments, he is best remembered for his successful efforts as Director of the Apollo Prayer League in overseeing the landing of the first Bible on the moon onboard Apollo 14 in 1971.

He is preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 71 years, Mary Helen Stout, whom he vowed to love "forever and ever - and then a little bit more."

Those whose lives he touched will never forget him.
