Bill attended Immaculate Conception school, LaSalle College High School, and Germantown Academy. He graduated from Temple University in 1952. He played football at LaSalle and Temple and was recruited to play at the Cincinnati Bengals. He loved coaching football and especially enjoyed coaching his sons.
Bill served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. During his service, he received a Bronze Star Medal, Silver Star Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, and a Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained in Vietnam.
He was married to Dorothy Mae Weston in 1958. Together they had 4 children. Bill worked at Eaton, Yale, and Towne for most of his career and retired in the 1990s as a credit and leasing supervisor. Bill was married to Virginia Blackman in 1988. They spent a lot of time at her home in Wildwood and made frequent use of the boat they kept in the bay.
Bill was an Eagle Scout. He developed a love for boats, boating, the ocean, and the shore. He was a Captain of the Sea Explorers and was active in the Delaware Valley Youth Boating Association. He passed his love for boating on to his children by having a boat that they grew up with.
Bill will be remembered as friendly, helpful, and outgoing. He loved asking waiters and people who helped him where they were from. He was always up for an adventure. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. and memorial service at 10:30 A.M. at the Chapel of Personal Care at the Park, 3455 Davisville Road, Hatboro, PA 19040. His graveside service will follow with military honors rendered by the United States Navy at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Cheltenham, PA 19038.
