While at his home chopping wood, he accidentally cut his leg with the ax. The cut became septic, and he succumbed to the injury.
Upon his death, he was laid to rest on January 12, 1936 on the grounds of Westview Cemetery in Tyler.
Burial arrangements were managed by undertaker, Wayman L. Wilburn, of Tyler.
Their daughter, Mrs. Lora B. (Abram) Francis, of 410 Confederate Avenue, Tyler, was the informant on the death certificate.
