Gerald Addison Riley, 91, passed away January 16, 2017 at Hock Family Pavilion. Born and raised in Orange County, he was the son of the late James Addison Riley and Ada Link Riley and was one of 12 children.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Riley was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Onzelle Riley; and a grandson, Blane Riley.

Mr. Riley attended Murphy School, was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII, a member of Fellowship Lodge #687 AF AM, and a retiree from the American Tobacco Company after 28 years of service. He was also a member of Pleasant Green United Methodist Church in Durham, and currently the longest standing member with 81 years of membership. He loved spending time at his second home in Salter Path, NC.

Mr. Riley is survived by sons, Mike Riley (Kim) of Pine Knoll Shores, Rick Riley (Melody Mills) of Durham, Tim Riley (Connie) of Durham; grandchildren, Taylor Grigg (David), Clark Riley, Lauren Baxley (Wil), Brooke Mattocks (Peter); great-grandson, Jack Mattocks; and sister, Sue Johnson (Ned).

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20th at Pleasant Green United Methodist Church with Dr. Jesse Brunson and Rev. Brian Wingo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., and a reception will be held following the service in the fellowship hall.
