He was born June 21, 1927 in Bells, Tennessee the son of Thomas Hill and Pauline (Pullian) Overton.
He served in the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Air Force.
He was a truck driver for many years, and a member of Teamsters Union.
He was a member of Al Chima Shriners.
James had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area for over 27 years after moving from Memphis, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James Thomas Overton; his first wife, Emma Norvelle (Howse) Overton; and a sister, Polly Ann Overton.
James is survived by his wife, Joan Williams Overton, whom he married June 13, 1977; a daughter, Judy Windbush of Florida; a step-daughter, Suzy Fehlig (and husband, Chuck) of Cave Springs, Arkansas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Saint Vincent Cemetery in Avoca.
