Final respects were accorded Monday afternoon here to Mrs. Mary Spring Loomis, life-long resident of Sycamore and its city treasurer during several administrations, who died Saturday evening in Municipal hospital after a confinement of 16 days. At death, Mrs. Loomis was 85.

A fractured hip which she suffered on the evening of Oct. 10th at her home on East Elm street caused her confinement and resulted in her demise. Her many friends and associates mourn.

Mrs. Loomis was born June 2, 1850 two miles south and east of Sycamore and after receiving her education taught in rural schools of the vicinity. She was united in marriage to William S. Loomis of Sycamore on July 11, 1878, to which union three children were born, Jed. Ellwood who died in infancy; Alvah S. of Highland Park; and Eunice D. Jordan of Belvidere.

Besides the latter two children, Mrs. Loomis leaves her bereaved husband, and six grandchildren to survive.

Mrs. Loomis had been active in the affairs of the Congregational, now Federated, church and in civic matters until her recent decline of health. In the church she was a member of the missionary society, ladies aid, Sunday school and other departments. Her friends attest that she had lived a splendid Christian life and that she was a woman of fine personality and character.

She served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Dustin Chapter, after 1912 and was city treasurer later.

Services Monday were held in the Federated church with the Rev. Ernest Akin officiating.
