George A. Manning Jr., of Ridge Road, Beaver Springs, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born August 15, 1930, in Danville, a son of the late George A. and Mary E. (Long) Mannning. On May 18, 1957, he married the late Grace E. (Stoneroad) Kantz.
George was a 1948 graduate of Northumberland High School. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 7, 1948 and completed his basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas. During his military career he was stationed at numerous Air Force bases and was promoted to sergeant. George served in Korea and was discharged in 1955 and had earned numerous medals during his service.
After the service he worked for the Vibration Engineering Co., Hazleton as a bookkeeper. He later worked in Wilmington, Del., as a general foreman for an oil refinery. He also worked in Williamsport as a credit manager and assistant manager.
George attended Christ Church in Beaver Springs. He was a member of F&AM Lodge 319 since 1962. He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 321, State College and Post 5640 in Middleburg, and past commander of the American Legion Post 616 in Shepton and Post 23 of Beaver Springs.
He enjoyed spending time at the Beaver Springs Senior Center.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, George III and Lucie Manning, Mark Manning, and James and Cindy Manning; one daughter, Terri Long; grandchildren, Tyson Manning, Ezra Manning, Eli Manning, Zach Manning, Amber Lynn Manning, Isaia Manning; two great-grandchildren, Grace Ann Manning, Madison Manning; two brothers, Joseph and William Manning; and one son-in-law, Terry Long.
He was preceded by three sisters.
Friends and family will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, followed by the funeral at 7, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating, with military honors by the Middlewest Veterans.
Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
