Georgia Evelyn Wilder Gray, 90, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, died in her home on January 13, 2017. Evelyn was born on July 19, 1926, in Ruston, Louisiana, to the late George Lawrence Wilder and Tinnie Gresham Shaver Wilder.

Evelyn grew up in the Greenwood Community, graduated from Ruston High School, worked as a legal secretary, and married Columbus M. “Lum” Gray of Bernice, Louisiana. They lived in Delhi, Louisiana, for several years before settling in Bernice. In 1971, Evelyn was widowed at a young age and never remarried. In 2006, when Evelyn’s Bernice home of 53 years was declared “eminent domain” for the widening of HWY 167, she moved near her son in El Dorado, Arkansas. In 2012, when her health declined, Evelyn moved into her daughter’s home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Evelyn enjoyed quilting and crocheting and was an excellent baker. Later in life, Evelyn loved chocolate and desserts and giving her great-grand dog, Ernie, treats and rides on her walker.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Marsha Long (John) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; her son, George Malcus Gray (Robyn) of Benton, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Jason Long (Holland) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Gavin Gray (Joy) of Alexander, Arkansas; and Dana Gray Houston (Jason) of Maumelle, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Curtis Allan Long, Campbell Christine Long and Cathrine Gray Long of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; her sister and best friend, Mary Wilder Havins and her nephew, Terry Havins of Ruston, Louisiana. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lum Gray; her sisters, Bernice Wilder Giddings, Inez Wilder Turner, and Gertie Lou Wilder Simonton; her brothers, Bert Wilder and Edward Shaver.

Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her husband, Columbus M. “Lum” Gray, at a private graveside service in the Shiloh Cemetery, Bernice, Louisiana.
