BRANTLEY, ABRAM 1819-1886 CLINCH
Abram Brantley was born in this state in 1819, son of John Brantley. He grew up in Lowndes County. His wife, Mary E., was born 1830 in South Carolina; maiden name unknown. They had twelve children, viz:
1. Delila Ann b. 1844, m.W. H. Woodard, Dec. 6, 1868.
2. Martha Ann b. 1847, m. James Mathis (2nd wife).
3. George W. b. 1850, m. Martha Youmans.
4. Sarah Ann b. 1853, m. James T. Smith.
5. Thurza Ann b. 1857, died in girlhood.
6. James Madison b. 1858. m. Lumpkin Chaney.
7. Joseph A. b. 1860, m. Sidney Peters, dau. of Isham H.
8. William H. b. 1863, m. -_ in Tattnall Co.
9. John b. 1865, m. Martha Chaney, Dec. 23, 1887.
10. Hardy b. 1868, died in boyhood.
11: Abram, Jr. b. 1870, m. Jamesanna Peters, dau. of Isham H.
12. Levi b. 1872, m - -------- in Tattnall Co.
Abram Brantley was 2nd lieutenant of the militia in the 664th district of Lowndes, 1846-50. In 1856, he was cut out of Lowndes into Berrien County. About 1858 he moved from Berrien to Clinch county, and lived in the Dupont and Stockton districts at different times. He was for many years a tenant-farmer and carpenter. He died about 1885-6 in Lowndes County at or near Naylor. His wife died about 1905. They were buried at Good Hope Baptist Church.
