Mrs. Hazel P. Garwick, of Bay City, passed away peacefully Monday morning, January 16, 2017, at McLaren Bay Region, age 95. The daughter of the late Melvin and Laura (Miller) Lindeman, she was born on March 1, 1921 in Meyersdale, PA. Hazel was raised in Pennsylvania where she also went to college and became a registered nurse.

During WWII, Hazel joined the U.S. Army. While serving as a Lieutenant with the Army Nurse Corps in England, she met Medic Tech. Sergeant Alvin P. Garwick, Sr. While being stationed in the same field hospital, they began dating in England, throughout France, and were married in Belgium on March 4, 1945. Following the war, Hazel and Alvin moved to his hometown of Bay City. She worked as a private duty nurse in local hospitals and then retired from the Bay Medical Care Facility. Hazel was a very active, longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin P. Garwick, Sr. on July 25, 1983. She is survived by their son, Alvin “Rusty” (Marilyn) Garwick, Jr. of Essexville; her grandchildren, Scott (Leslie Willson) Garwick of Three Rivers and Craig (Amy) Garwick of Hampton Twp.; eight great-grandchildren, Shelby (Brandon) Sauer, Zachary, Jacob, Parker, Jagger, Gracyn, Kinsleigh and Marlee Garwick, and Leslie’s children, Zoey and Bayne; two great-great-grandchildren, Carson and Felicity Sauer; and her special friend, Marty Doring.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center in Saginaw for all of the care and support they gave to Hazel.

The Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church, 4267 S. Two Mile Rd. Officiating will be Pastor Eric Kieb followed by Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery.
