Wanda M. George - age 97, of Pomeroy, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at the Accura Healthcare of Pomeroy, Iowa.
Wanda Marie Paulsen was born January 19, 1923 at West Branch, Iowa. She was the daughter of Neal and Ida (Miller) Paulsen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran Church, West Branch. After she graduated from West Branch High School in 1940, she then attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. After which, she was employed in the payroll and bookkeeping department of F.W. Fitch Co., Des Moines and then Economy Advertising Co., Iowa City. Wanda was united in marriage to Robert G. George of Pomeroy on June 9, 1946 at Bethany Lutheran Church, West Branch.
The couple made their home in Pomeroy where she joined her husband in publishing the Pomeroy Herald until retirement in 1985. They visited nearly all fifty states following their retirement. Her husband died on January 18, 1996 and Wanda continued to make her home in Pomeroy.
Wanda was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served on the church council, as Sunday School teacher and the LWML. She was also a member of the AmVets Auxiliary, the 3-M Club and was a Care Center resident advocate.
Survivors include her four children, Stephen (Ellen) George of St. Louis Park, MN; Monica (Robert) Teuscher of Sedalia, CO; David (Pam) George of Manson and Paula Sawlidi of Castle Rock, CO; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Delores Paulsen of Iowa City and many nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers, Alvin and Harold Paulsen and a sister-in-law, Loretta Paulsen.
