Wilma Jean (Hamm) James, 82, of Martinsville, passed from this life in the comfort of her own home at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017. She was one of thirteen children born to the late Charles and Velma (Hendricks) Hamm. Wilma was born in Bloomington, Indiana, on May 30, 1934.
On November 4, 1961, she married John M. “Bud” James; he preceded her in death in 1984. Following her marriage to Bud, Wilma moved to Martinsville from Bloomington, making it her home for the remainder of her life. She was a longtime member of the York Street Church of Christ in Martinsville and a dedicated mother and grandmother. She loved to read, especially to her grandchildren, and spend time with her family. Any who knew her, would say with certainty, that Wilma’s greatest joy was caring for her children, grandchildren and extended family.
She will be deeply missed and always remembered by her family and friends including her two sons, Tim (wife, Sherry) James and Donald James both of Martinsville; two daughters, Lorrinda (husband, Everett) Carey and Sarah (husband, Robert) Pierson both of Martinsville; three step-sons, John and Randy (wife, Lori) James both of Bloomington and Jesse (wife, Sherry) James of Shelbyville, IN; two brothers, Joe Hamm of Ellettsville, IN and Don Hamm of Whitehall, IN; two sisters, Barbara Porter of Bloomington and Sharon Ludwig of Whitehall, IN; eleven grandchildren, Sunshine Geisel, Jayme Willison, Andrew James, Crista Clephane, Kayla Hutchinson, Chris James, Sebastian Pierson, Garrett James, Hunter James, Austin James and Rileigh Pierson; ten step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; fifteen step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud James; six brothers, Robert, Archie, Louie, Harold, Charles and Jerry Hamm and two sisters, Juanita Pless and Louise Edwards.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, January 18th from 4-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to service on Thursday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center, Martinsville. Brother Joe Hamm will conduct a service celebrating Wilma’s life on Thursday, January 19th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home and she will be buried following the service in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville, Indiana.
