Faye Sessions Carroll was born in Lowell, Georgia on October 19, 1915 to Wade Hamp Chappell County Commissioner and Carrie Favor Chappell Homemaker and Accomplished Musician. She graduated from Bowden High School in Bowden, GA., attended West Georgia College (Carrollton, Georgia) and graduated from Grady Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She was employed at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta where she met her future husband Raymond R. Sessions MD. They married in March 1939, moved to Kissimmee, Florida and established the Kissimmee Hospital and Clinic in 1940.
Raymond was called to active duty in the U.S. Army in August 1942. She briefly resided in Victoria, Texas with their then two children while he was stationed at Foster Field and in training to became a flight surgeon. When he was deployed to the Philippines she returned home and to the management of the hospital. Raymond returned to Kissimmee in 1945 and they developed and expanded the hospital and clinic. Three more children were born. For over 20 years they provided health care to the area citizens as well as provided a source of employment for many individuals. Faye was not only a nurse but was involved all areas of hospital management -procuring groceries, mending linens staffing and other areas.
Raymond passed away suddenly in 1965. Faye later enrolled at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, graduating in 1969 as a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (a lifelong dream). She was employed as a nurse anesthetist until her marriage to John Carroll in 1972. She also managed the young citrus grove that Raymond had planted before he passed away and despite some difficult years was able to provide for herself and the family with the grove income.
Faye was a member of the First United Methodist Church and often played the piano for her Sunday school class. Faye was a member of the Silver Spurs Association working for many years in "Connie Partin's" concession stands during the rodeo. Faye was also a past member of the Florida Certified Nurse Anesthetist Association.
Suvivors include daughters: Ann Silcox and Martha Eames; sons: Edward Hampton Sessions(Donna) and Mark Chappell Sessions; grandchildren:Clayton R. Syfrett (Kim), Elizabeth Moore (John), Renard Sessions (Tina), Austin Sessions, Jennifer Hamilton (Mark), Jocelyn Ward (Brian), Hampton, Jr. (Laura), Walter Sessions, Hunter Sessions, James Sessions, David Eames, James Eames and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Dorothy Meyers and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond R. Sessions and later by John E. Carroll; son, Raymond R. Sessions, Jr.; brothers, Hoke, Hugh, Wade, Clay and Bill Chappell; sisters, Mary Burns, Martha Schultz and identical twin sister Raye Woods.
Faye will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who stressed the importance of loyalty to family.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Osceola Memory Gardens with the Reverend Cathy Thacker officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
