Eliza Lofton Phillips was the wife of William Whitmell Pugh Jr. She and her husband ran Lyn's Hope Plantation from 1867-1890. The plantation was named for their son Llewelyn. She was the daughter of George W. Phillips and Sarah Rhea. Eliza was a published writer of 2 novels and numerous short stories. Her grave stone lies almost buried in overgrowth on a forgotten mound in the middle of a cane field. This is a private cemetery known as Little Texas, but is listed as Unknown Cemetery No. 13 in Assumption Parish. Her father, sister, and brother also have grave stones that are visible, but there are many more including her husband William Whitmell Pugh Jr. that can not be seen due to the neglect and overgrowth of land.
