Augustus F. Allen Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri, at 86 completed his journey following a year of declining health. He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus ‘Gus’ and Bessie Allen; his sister Nancy E. and her husband, James E. Richardson Jr.

Fred is survived by his sister Marilyn Allen, and leaves to remember him nieces Karen (William H.) Matthews; Rhonda Richardson, nephew James Richardson III (Sherry G.), great-nephew Will and great-nieces Tanner and Hannah, and a host of cousins and friends.

Known to all as Fred, he lived in St. Louis his entire life, but would venture to other parts of the world after graduation from Sumner High School. Along with the life-long friends he met in the high school band, Fred joined the Army Reserves and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. Fred served until his honorable discharged in 1952 from Army Aviation Systems Command; he continued service as a Logistics Management Specialist, until his retirement in January 1986.

Being a solitary person, Fred looked forward to time with his best canine friend Beta, walking in Tilles Park. Fred enjoyed tennis, photography and jazz, though not necessarily in that order; and getting together with his 315th Army band mates for lunch. As his health declined, Fred looked forward to listening to his jazz, enjoying the likes of Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and James Moody; and time spent with his sweet Hannah, playing dominos and checkers.

The family acknowledges in deepest appreciation the support and prayers of family and friends, and care provided at Delmar Gardens West.
