Barbara Wise Hash

Barbara Ann Wise Hash, 75, of 139 Briarcliff Road and wife of Dr. J. Alex Hash, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC.

A native of Newberry, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ray A. and Gertrude Abrams Wise. Mrs. Hash earned a BS degree from Winthrop College and MS degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was South Carolina's Home Economics Teacher of the Year for 1977 and a teacher and state supervisor for 30 years. She taught home economics for five years at Asheville, NC and served as Future Homemakers of America district adviser. She taught home economics for five years at Greensboro, NC and served as supervisor of student teachers.

In 1968, Mrs. Hash returned to her native South Carolina as state supervisor of Occupational Home Economics in the state Department of Education at Columbia. After five successful years as state supervior and her marriage to a Clemson professor, she elected to return to the classroom at Walhalla Middle School for the remainder of her professional career outside the home. She served as president of the Winthrop Alumni Association at Clemson. She was a member of the American Home Economics Association and the National Education Association.

Mrs. Hash was an active member of Clemson First Baptist Church and served as teacher and director of Mission Friends. She also served as president of the Baptist Women for five years during retirement. In addition, she served as Deacon for several three year terms.

Surviving are her husband of the home; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, John Alexander and Theresa Henderson Hash, Jr. of Memphis, TN; Charles Braxton and Christine Nolt Hash of Lititz, PA; eight grandchildren, John Alexander Hash III, Christine Marie Hash, David Joseph Hash, Charles Alexander Hash, Willem Logan Hash,Samuel Lewis Hash Genevieve Rachel Hash and Jesse Braxton Hash.

Memorial services will be 11 AM, Saturday, May 5th at Clemson First Baptist Church with Dr. Rusty Brock officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Mrs. Hash may be viewed at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central from noon til 5 PM on Thursday and from 9 til 7 PM on Friday.

A private graveside service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday with family and cousins present at Memory Gardens, Clemson.
