Elaine Lillian Chafin Watson, 88, passed away peacefully and quietly on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Born February 26, 1928, in Lynchburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Emma Glass Chafin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, William S. Chafin and Elizabeth Chafin. Elaine graduated from Dunbar High School in 1944 and matriculated to North Carolina Central College. Upon graduation she then went on to earn her master's degree from New York University. While attending graduate school Elaine met and married the love of her life, Herbert R. Watson Sr. who preceded her in death. The two were married for 54 years and from this union they had a son, Herbert R. "Skip" Watson Jr. Elaine is survived by her son, Skip and his wife, Tracy J. Moss of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Sidney I. Lawings, Randi M. Lawings, John R. Watson, and Evynn Elaine Watson all of Atlanta. Also left to cherish her memory is her nephew, William S. "Billy" Chafin Jr. of Seat Pleasant, Md. Elaine's memory will be cherished by a plethora of relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday January 21, 2017, at Jackson Street United MethodistChurch. The family will receive friends Friday, January 20, 2017,from 6 to 8 p.m. at Franklin-Hutcherson Funeral Home.
