John T. McGhee, 95, of Hartford, widower of Pauline McGhee passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in Windsor, CT. He was born in Fostoria, AL on September 5, 1921, the only child of the late Hezekiah and Ethel B. McGhee. He was raised in Fostoria, AL and was a working man from his teen years until approximately 80 years old. He was a farmer, and carpenter in AL. In CT he was a carpenter with Cote Carpenters, and Landev Inc. and others. John T. was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church of Windsor where he served as deacon. He honorably served his country during WWII. He earned a Purple Heart and good conduct medal amongst other medals.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Pauline.

He leaves four sons, Eddie Rivers and his wife Linda, Frank E. McGhee, Rogers McGee, and John L. McGhee all of Hartford; two daughters, Johnnie M. McGhee of Hartford and Julia N. McConnell and her husband Walter of Shreveport, LA. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catha M. Rivers. He leaves eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, spiritual children and a host of dear relatives and friends.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 18, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Home Going service at 11 a.m., at the Hopewell Baptist Church, 280 Windsor Ave., Windsor, CT. Burial will follow in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln., Middletown.
