Kenna Beck was born Aug. 31, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of George Jeffrey and Dorothy Marion Mussell Watson, Beck died on Jan. 11, 2017 at Twilight Nursing Home of heart failure.

She spent her childhood in Brooklyn, Long Island, and Mount Kisco. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1945 with a Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy.

She married John Keitt Beck, Sr., on April 25, 1959.

Prior to her marriage Beck worked around the United States as an occupational therapist and as a teacher of occupational therapy at the New York City Hospital System, at Bellevue Hospital, at Trenton State Hospital, at Scottish Rite Hospital, at the University of Southern California, at Warm Springs, at Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women's University), at Parkland Hospital, at Duke Hospital (now Duke University Medical Center) and at the University of Pennsylvania.

After she married, she worked on the family ranch in the cattle dog business, and was a housewife. Kenna and John enjoyed many adventures together. She worked as a petroleum landman and volunteered in Democratic Party politics. She served as the precinct chair in Kerens for 20 years. She played a leadership role in the efforts that brought a library to Kerens in the early 1990s. She joined the Kerens Presbyterian Church when she moved to Kerens, and she served that congregation as a Deacon, an Elder, and a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Pioneer Literary Club. She was responsible for securing a historical marker for the Kerens Presbyterian Church. She also volunteered on issues pertaining to mental health and mental retardation.

Kenna had two children, Dr. Nancy Clyde Beck Young and Dr. John Keitt Beck Jr. Nancy is married to Dr. Mark E. Young, and they live in Houston with their son, Thomas Eldon Young. John Keitt is married to Dr. Shari Beck, and they live in Corsicana with their children, John Keitt Beck III, Rudy Andrew Beck, and Sarah Ann Beck. She is also survived by six nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017 at Paschal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 at the Kerens Presbyterian Church. Rev. Kathy Sims Collier will officiate with burial to follow in the Kerens Cemetery.

Pallbearers are A.L. Atkeisson, Bobby Henderson, Chad Clemente, Michael Zwernemann, Brett Latta, Henry Lindsey, and Randy Tolliver. Honorary pallbearers are John Keitt Beck III, Rudy Andrew Beck, Thomas Eldon Young, and Sarah Ann Beck.
