He married Catherine Harris on November 22, 1883, in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. They have one son. She died in 1885, and he married Glendora Sommerkamp on May 17, 1888. In 1883, Mr. Torbett went into the funeral business with Thomas Coleman. After purchasing the business in 1885, he continued it under the name C. L. Torbett until his death in 1930. He was involved with many clubs and organizations including Columbus Lodge #111, the Elks, I.O.O.F., Mount Herman Lodge #304, Knights Templar, Columbus Consistory, Yaraab Temple, Red Men, Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce.
