Cecile Irene Allen Bryan passed away January 12, 2017, at Wildewood Downs Retirement Community. Her nephew Bryan Hovey will officiate at a graveside service for family to be held at Belleview Cemetery, Lenoir, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Foundation for The Children’s Hospital, PO Box 247, Columbia, SC 29202; Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 7275, Columbia, SC 29202; or the charity of one’s choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

The daughter of the late Edgar Fullwood Allen and Stella Arthur Allen, Mrs. Bryan was born in Lenoir, NC, 101 years ago on December 8, 1915. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, John R. Bryan, Sr., her young son, Arthur Allen Bryan, and her brother, Edgar Arthur Allen. She is survived by her son, John Robeson (Rob) Bryan, Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Columbia, SC; her daughter, Jean Bryan Gooch of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren Steven Allen (Mindy) Bryan of Belmont, NC, Amie Gooch (Ryan) Thomas of Moncks Corner, SC; a step-grandson, J. Clay Gooch of Beaufort; great-grandsons, Finn Mitchell Bryan and Oliver Hudson Bryan of Belmont, NC, Jon Carter Thomas of Moncks Corner; step-great-grandson, Jacob Ryan Thomas II; and great-godson, Joshua Levi Williamson. She is also survived by her niece, Amanda Allen (Charles) Radcliffe and nieces and nephews by marriage and their families.

Mrs. Bryan lived life fully during her amazing 101 years, enjoying traveling, gardening, cooking, reading and bridge. She loved and excelled at making her home and yard beautiful and welcoming. Always interested in and engaged with people, she treasured her family and friends. Cecile would want us to sincerely thank all her friends and the employees who so enriched her life during her more than 12 years at Wildewood Downs, the thoughtful and caring staff of Palmetto Health Hospice and the wonderful caregivers, especially Denise Brown and Hattie Parks, who so lovingly cared for her during her last months. She loved you all.
