Herbert G. Howell 87, of Grosvenor’s Corners Road died Sunday November 30th at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital after being stricken suddenly.
Mr. Howell was born November 21, 1927 in Theodore, Maryland a son of James Price and Margaret (Abrams) Howell. Following his education in Maryland, Herbert enlisted in the US Army serving during WW II in the Signal Corps. He had lived in Maryland and Yonkers, NY and settled on the farm in Grosvenor’s Corners in 1951. He drove school bus for Cobleskill schools in the 1950’s and worked at the former Sealtest foods in Central Bridge and Borden Farms in Middleburgh before starting his career with SUNY Cobleskill where he retired in 1993. Herbert served on the board with the Grosvenor’s Corners Cemetery Association. He enjoyed working his farm doing hay, cutting wood and operating his Farmall tractor.
Survivors include his wife Jeanne L. (Dahl) Howell whom she married on February 17, 1947, four daughters; Arlene Miller of Grosvenor’s Corners, Vivian (Lynn) Cain of Grosvenor’s Corners, Diane Toth of Hartwick and Cynthia Howell of Manassas, Virginia, three grandchildren; Holly, April and Susan, four great-grandchildren; Gwendolyn, William, Alex and McKensey and one great-great-grandson, Kaiden. He is also survived by his siblings; Ralph Howell of Staten Island, Iona Bare and Great Niece Alicea Bare And Pearl Blakely both of Maryland along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother William Howell James Price Howell Jr. Leon, Baby Eugene Howell. And two sisters Geraldine And Ethel.
