In this family the name has changed- In Canada the name was Goulet. Then Goulait, his father Frederick Oliver Sr married 2nd in Iosco Co in 1870 using the Goulait Spelling. On the 1870 census he states both sons born in Louisiana, family sources claim New Orleans.
Fred was a commercial fisherman, late in life he married Jane'Jennie' Everdite Hewett Defoe. He had been a friend of her first husband, who was also a commercial fisherman. Fred boarded with his friend. After the death of Jennie's husband Fred stayed on as her boarder and helped rear her large family. Eventually they married. Jennie preceeded him in death and is also buried here as is Fred's half sister who married Jennie's son Howard Arthur DeFoe.
There are mistakes on the death certifcate- the informant is unnamed- but this cemetery is given that he was a fisherman is given and that he was a widow, It is not likely that there would be two Fred Gould's commercial fishemen in this area. one born in 1858 Ireland and the other 1855 Louisiana. So I am sure this is correct- I could not get anything when I attempted to pull up a Fred Gould Born in Ireland died in Tuscola co Michigan. The only record to come up was this death record.
Fred was my gr grandfather full brother they were the sons of Frederick Oliver Goulet Goulait [no evidence that he changed to Gould]and his 1st known to me wife Josephine Norah both born in Quebec. My gr uncle Fred Gould said that his dad had a brother that was a priest, and two sisters that were nuns. I have not found them. His Dad did remarry and had 5 kids by his German wife Christina Hartman- I have traced them- only 2 remained Catholic, and the same 2 did not change their names, the other 3 adopted Gould and became Methodist. The two that remained Catholic married so I know I do not have all of the children.
