JIMMY LAMAR BYRD, 65, of Cross City, Florida passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017.

Mr. Byrd was born on February 7, 1951 to Henry and Rachel Byrd. He served his country in the United States Army then began working with the Department of Transportation as a surveyor. He then moved to the Department of Corrections retiring in 2008. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Ramsey Bend Hunting Club and North Florida Dog Hunters Association. He also like to travel to Tennessee. He attended Cross City Pentecostal Holiness Church and was previously a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice Byrd; sons, Dawain (Marcie) Byrd of Old Town and Joseph Byrd of Cross City; daughter Raqel (Michael) Rood of Old Town; sisters, Bertha (John) Wilson of Cross City and Martha Sue (Tony) Osteen of Cross City; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dewey and Jesse Byrd and sister Phyllis Byrd.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 3:00pm at Sandhill Cemetery in Horseshoe Beach with Rev. Randy Richardson officiating. A visitation will begin at 2:30pm at the cemetery.
