Evelyn Hendricks, 98, of South Dartmouth, formerly of New Bedford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Autumn Glen, a Senior Living Community of North Dartmouth, where she had been a resident since 2013. Prior to 2013, she had lived for over ten years with her niece, Marianne Jordan and her husband, Paul, in South Dartmouth, who also served as her caregiver.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Marianna S. (Vieira) Hendricks, she was a 1938 graduate of New Bedford High School. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in New Bedford, and a lifelong member of the Mount Carmel Church Women’s Club, the New Bedford Catholic Women’s Club, and the Daughters of Isabella.
She was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford Cemetery Board for many years until her retirement at age 65. She enjoyed meeting and socializing with her many friends during her involvement with her many organizations. She was a talented artist and enjoyed painting.
Evelyn was the last of ten children. She was the sister of the late Mary, Manuel G. and William A. Hendricks, Isabel Andrade, Alice H. Fraga, Hazel H. Thomas, Frances King, Elsie Espinola and Eleanor Morris.
She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and is especially thankful to her niece Eleanor Brightman and nephew Peter Espinola who assisted her in scheduling and transporting her to medical appointments while residing at Autumn Glen.
Calling hours are in the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford. Her funeral will be from the funeral home followed by a Mass oc christina burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, New Bedford. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford MA.
