John was a US Army veteran. He retired from Purity Bakery in Decatur after 33 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, wood burning and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna; children, John (Beth) Shull, Jr., Scott (Jillian) Shull, Steve Shull, Carlotta "Carla" Brennan and Angie (Tim) Imler; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margie Wright and Georgia Roberts and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Earl and Evelyn Rice; and brother, Charles "Bubby" Shull.
Visitation and Funeral Service: 10 a.m. until time of service at noon Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
