Joe Thomas Barrett, 87, of Lawndale, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
He was born in Cleveland County, on January 28, 1929, to the late Lester Hosey Barrett and Annie Maude Hoyle Barrett. He retired from the NC Department of Transportation as a mechanic after thirty years of service. Joe was a member of Carpenters Grove Baptist Church and served in the US Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Barrett and Ronnie Barrett; and sister, Ann Crotts.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Pearlie Proctor Barrett; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sarita and Charlie Caserta of Cary, Bonnie and Phil Beam of Lawndale, and Sherry and Todd Pruett of Lawndale; sister, Mavin Hoyle of Fallston; six grandchildren and spouses, Beth and Brad Hancock of Raleigh, Jennifer Caserta of Raleigh, Krista Caserta of Raleigh, Jackson and Markita Beam of Shelby, Jordan Beam of New York, NY, Zachary Pruett of Lawndale; five great-grandchildren, Gracie Hancock, Kensly Hancock, Jadon Beam, Miriam Thurman, and Corinna Beam.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston.
The funeral service will be on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Carpenters Grove Baptist Church, Lawndale, with the Rev. Jason Allen officiating.
The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
