Doris was born June 11, 1928, in Oshkosh, Wis., Winnebago County to Fred Ahrens II and Laura Ebert. She was the youngest of 10 children. Doris married Jesse Leroy on May 17, 1957. She was a stay at home mother and did volunteer work at her local church.
